Our teacher-vetting standard

Why we publish this

A parent deserves to know what we check before a teacher teaches their child in the SPM year. This is the standard our founders, Rig and Dale, apply to every Biology teacher on our team. It describes what we look for; it is not a promise about any individual student’s result.

What every teacher must show

1. Real Biology teaching experience. We only take on teachers who have genuinely taught SPM Biology (KSSM 4551), not generalists who “also do Biology”. We ask for and confirm their teaching background before they take a single lesson.

2. Command of the current syllabus. A teacher must know the Form 4 and Form 5 chapters, the content standards, and the format of Papers 1, 2 and 3 as published by BPK and LP, the same official documents we cite on our Sources page. A teacher who is teaching last year’s format is not ready to teach this year’s students.

3. One-to-one teaching skill, not just knowledge. Knowing Biology and teaching Biology are different things. We look for teachers who can diagnose why a student got an answer wrong, a confused definition, a missed step in a process, a diagram they cannot label, and re-teach it, rather than simply repeating the correct answer.

4. Exam-aligned methods. Our teachers coach active recall, diagram labelling and Paper 2 essay structure, and the practice questions they use in lessons are original, written in the style of the exam. The focus is on skills your child keeps, not shortcuts.

5. Professional conduct online. Punctual, prepared, and respectful in a one-to-one online setting with a minor, including sensible expectations around communication with parents.

The experience that matters to you

The right teacher depends on your child, their form, their target grade and where they are stuck. When your child is assigned a teacher, just ask on WhatsApp and we will tell you the specific experience we have verified for that teacher.
