What changes when there is no school timetable to follow?

A school day forces Biology into a slot three or four times a week; at home, a week can pass with nothing but reading. We ask every home candidate to build their day around the online lesson, so that the lesson is a deadline, not just an appointment.

  2. The day before the lesson: complete one past-paper structured question set by the teacher and send a clear photo of the handwritten answer

  4. The two days after the lesson: rewrite the corrected answer from memory, then attempt one similar question
  5. Mid-week: Paper 1 multiple-choice on the same chapter, timed, using the countdown to keep the exam date in view

Which chapters does a candidate usually rebuild first, and how?

The previous result slip tells the teacher where to start. A candidate who did well on Paper 1 but poorly on Paper 2 has a writing problem more than a knowledge problem; a candidate weak on both usually has two or three foundation chapters that never settled.

In the paid trial hour, the teacher works through one topic the candidate names as their worst and reads the last available marked script if the family still has it.

Two chapters come up again and again with home candidates in Ipoh, and they show two different kinds of rebuilding. The nephron, from the Form 4 homeostasis chapter, is a structure-and-sequence topic: ultrafiltration at the glomerulus, reabsorption along the proximal convoluted tubule, the role of the loop of Henle, and how antidiuretic hormone changes the collecting duct.

How does a one-to-one teacher replace the feedback a school teacher gave?

A school teacher marks a class set and hands scripts back in a week. Our teacher marks one candidate's work on the shared screen, live, with the candidate watching where each mark is gained and lost.

The candidate sends a photo of handwritten answers before the lesson; the teacher opens it, annotates it, and the annotated version is saved to the candidate's folder. Over a term, that folder becomes the candidate's personal mark scheme, the phrases that earned marks, the phrases that were too vague, the diagrams that were missing labels.

For an adult or older candidate, this is also where the accountability lives. Each candidate is taught by one experienced Biology teacher chosen for them, and staying in the WhatsApp thread means a lesson missed or work not sent is noticed within the week.

How does a home candidate practise Paper 3 without a school laboratory?

Paper 3 is the practical test (Ujian Amali) paper. A private candidate in Ipoh sits it under the same conditions as school candidates, with 5 minutes planning and 40 minutes answering, and the questions are built on experiments in the syllabus rather than on apparatus in front of the candidate.

That is good news for someone without a laboratory: the skills are written skills.

What does the rate look like for a candidate studying at home full-time?

Our rate starts from RM50 per hour and depends on the teacher's experience; the exact figure for the teacher chosen is quoted on WhatsApp. Each lesson is booked one at a time, so a Perak home candidate can pay by the hour and change the pace as the exam term goes on.

A home candidate in Perak typically books one two-hour slot a week from the start, and in the last three months moves to two sessions a week, the shape of our last-three-months intensive, while the hourly rate stays the same.

The first lesson is a paid one-hour trial at the teacher's rate. For a repeat candidate we ask that the trial be spent on a topic from the previous exam that went badly, so both sides see whether the teaching style and the candidate's gaps match.

What about registration and exam dates for a private candidate?

Private candidates register with Lembaga Peperiksaan in a window that is separate from school registration, and the exam timetable for each year is published by Lembaga Peperiksaan closer to that year. We keep the current Biology dates, registration windows and paper order on the SPM Biology calendar, and the teacher builds the candidate's weekly plan backwards from the dates on that page.

Candidates aiming at SPM 2027 should expect the timetable later; the study plan starts now regardless.

What does a working home-study week in Ipoh look like?

This is the pattern most of our home candidates in Kinta settle into after the first month. It assumes one online lesson a week and about ten hours of self-study, which is realistic for a candidate preparing full-time and still workable for one who is also working part-time.
