Why is Biology homework so hard for a parent to check?

How does a parent read the "corrected" line without knowing the science?
The corrected line is the part parents find most useful, so the teacher writes it as a pair: what the student wrote, then what the examiner wants. You do not need to judge the biology yourself.
You only need to notice two things over the weeks: whether the same type of error keeps appearing, and whether the corrections shift from basic vocabulary towards deeper explanation.
Take the heart. In week one a correction might read: "Labelled the left ventricle as the right ventricle; reminded that diagrams are drawn as if the heart faces you." Three weeks later it might read: "Described the cardiac cycle in the right order but left out that the atrioventricular valves close to stop backflow; added the reason." Both are corrections, but a parent can see the second one is about a finer point than the first.
That movement is progress, and you can track it without knowing what an atrioventricular valve is.
What happens to school homework the student brings to the lesson?

How do we show progress across a term rather than a single week?
A single lesson note tells you about one evening. Across a term, the teacher keeps a simple running list of the ideas that have been taught, tested and secured.
"Taught" means it was explained. "Tested" means the student answered an exam-style question on it under some time pressure.
"Secured" means the answer earned full marks without prompting. Parents can ask for this list at any point on WhatsApp.
This matters because SPM Biology is assessed across three papers, and Paper 2 alone carries 100 marks of structured and essay writing. A student can feel comfortable with a topic in conversation and still write a thin answer under exam conditions.

What does the feedback look like for a weaker student versus a stronger one?
The shape of the note stays the same; the content changes. For a student rebuilding basics, the corrected lines are about terminology and diagram accuracy, and the next-step lines are short and specific.
For a student already scoring well, the corrections are about depth: adding the second reason, linking structure to function, or writing a comparison as a proper contrast rather than two separate descriptions.
