Biology in Form 4 covers 15 chapters, and the early ones, cell structure, movement across membranes, the chemistry of life, are the ground every later topic stands on. When those are shaky, a student can work hard and still lose marks, because the questions assume the basics are secure.
The weekly lesson starts by finding exactly which of those foundations has a hole in it, using the Form 4 syllabus as the checklist, and closing them one at a time before moving on.
Form 5 then adds 13 chapters, physiology, inheritance, ecology, most of which lean directly on the Form 4 ground. This is why patching the foundation first matters: a student who understands how a cell moves substances will pick up the Form 5 transport and homeostasis topics far faster than one still guessing at the basics.
The Form 5 page sets out what that year adds, and the teacher paces the catch-up so the two years connect rather than compete for the same hour.
The paid first hour does the diagnosis. Rather than a general chat, the teacher works through a few questions with the student to see which ideas are genuinely held and which are being recited without understanding.
